Laser is the most advanced hair removal method available. Compared to shaving and waxing, it almost seems futuristic. But how effective are laser treatments? Does it remove hair permanently? Does the hair grow back? To answer these questions, let’s begin with unpacking the basics about how laser hair removal works.

What Is Laser Hair Removal?

Laser Hair RemovalIn the simplest terms, laser hair removal eliminates unwanted hair by removing hair follicles with concentrated energy. A laser device works by concentrating light into a beam (or series of beams). This concentrated light is a form of portable energy. With laser hair removal, the energy heats up the hair follicle (or root). It may not feel hot to the touch, but this concentrated light heats up the follicle enough to deactivate growth, causing it to fall out. Even if hair falls out, that doesn’t necessarily mean it won’t come back. There are a range of laser types used in hair removal and the permanence of each type varies. Let’s go over the fundamentals to better understand the technology.

A Brief History:

Ruby Lasers: Using a synthetic ruby as its medium, the ruby laser was the first type of laser successfully operated. In turn, it became the first type of laser used in hair removal. It was a step toward the future, but the limitations were clear. There were no indications that ruby lasers delivered permanent hair removal. Moreover, while the technology worked moderately well on light skin with dark hair, its shorter 694 nm wavelength was unsuitable for darker skin tones. The search for efficient, inclusive laser hair removal continued.

IPL: Intense Pulsed Light lasers use a broad wavelength spectrum to repeatedly flash polychromatic light at the skin to damage the hair. Unfortunately, the technology can be painful and damaging to skin. Since the laser is broad and untargeted, the skin absorbs much of the energy, often causing burns and irritation. Epilaser knew there had to be a better way.

Diode: Unlike IPLs, Diode lasers emit a single, focused wavelength of light. This technology paved the way for ultra-focused hair removal. Best of all, diode lasers can be used for permanent hair removal. But there was still a challenge to overcome. The energy-absorbing pigment in hair follicles is the same pigment found in skin (melanin). To direct the laser at hair, and not skin, we engineered a method of distinguishing between the pigment in follicles from the pigment in skin.

SPOT Technology

SPOT Technology

Our talented team of scientists and engineers developed Smart Precise Optical Targeting to scan the treatment area and use advanced logarithms to distinguish hair follicles from skin. Worldwide patented and FDA cleared for home use,

SPOTtechnology identifies, isolates and targets individual hair follicles for pain-free removal. Four gentle diode lasers deactivate up to 15 follicles at a time, leaving the skin untouched. That’s why the device is painless and so effective, and that’s why it delivers permanent results. The lasers are directed at the follicle, not your skin.

Epilaser vs. IPL: An In-Depth Comparison

Laser Focused

Epilaser

There are many laser hair removal treatments available today, but not all deliver permanent results. Epilaser uses four guided diode lasers to deactivate hair-producing follicles so the hair doesn’t grow back. Many Epilaser users report permanent results within 3 months.

This technology is very different from IPL, which has not been shown in peer-reviewed studies to deliver permanent results. Intense Pulsed Laser treatments bombard the skin with broad wavelength lasers, hoping to remove hair in the process. By contrast, Epilaser specifically targets hair follicles, leaving your skin fresh and healthy. If no follicles are detected, Epilaser won’t engage the lasers. That’s why Epilaser is so gentle on skin.

IPL

IPL

After IPL treatments, you must stay inside to avoid sun exposure. That’s not the case with Epilaser. Since the skin is unaffected, there are no sunlight restrictions after treatment. No cooling gels or creams are required. Epilaser doesnt affect your skin’s surface and will not cause irritation. Unlike IPL, Epilaser does not require any protective eyewear.

Moreover, IPL devices come with a limited number of flashes. Once the flashes run out, a replacement flashbulb is required. This isn’t an issue with Epilaser. Since we use targeted diode lasers, your device comes with a lifetime of use. No flashes. No replacement bulbs. Just luxuriously smooth skin that lasts.

What about salon and in-clinic devices?

Some clinical devices can significantly reduce hair regrowth, but they can be painful and inconvenient. Epilaser is as powerful and permanent as professional clinic devices, with the added benefit of being much more convenient and super safe

That’s why Epilaser has been FDA cleared for home use. Epilaser works on hair follicles only and does not cause any skin irritation or burns. Clinical visits are inconvenient and expensive. With Epilaser, you can treat any area you choose in the comfort of homeor on the go. No more awkward visits with busy clinicians. Just cordless, versatile, and travel-friendly permanent hair removal.

How Is Laser Hair Removal with Epilaser Permanent?

Epilaser’s goal is to provide permanent results for all. What’s the point of expensive procedures if the hair grows back soon after? Epilaser makes laser hair removal permanent with four targeted lasers that go below the skin’s surface and deactivate hair follicles at the root. Unlike shaving, which only removes the exposed end of the hair, Epilaser deactivates the hair-producing follicle, so it doesn’t grow back. Many users report permanent results within 3 months of regular use (2-3 times per week).

It’s important to note that, over time, the body can generate new hair follicles, and hair can grow in new places. Hair growth is a process that often requires maintenance.Epilaser is an ideal option to make hair removal last as long as possible between treatments.

FAQs

How long will it take to see results?

The effects of laser hair removal can vary from person to person. Epilaser does not simply “laser away” the exposed ends of your body hair. It deactivates hair follicles at the root. For this reason, the hair will not instantly vanish. Instead, the hair will naturally fall out over the next day or two after treatment. Most users begin to see dramatic results after 3-4 treatments. In most cases, hair will stop growing back altogether after about 3 months of regular treatments.

Factors that Impact Permanent Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is a unique experience for each user. Factors that contribute to efficacy and permanence include skin color, hair color and hair density. People with a high contrast between their skin tone and hair color will experience the most effective treatment because the device will be able to identify hair follicles quickly and accurately. People with hair colors that match their skin tone can experience less effective results from laser treatment.

Is Permanent Laser Hair Removal 100% safe?

At-home laser hair removal treatment with Epilaser is 100% safe and effective. We all deserve the ability to remove unwanted hair without worry. The Epilaser mission is to provide you with effortless solutions to ensure you can easily and effectively remove hair safely. Epilaser is pain-free, totally safe and FDA cleared for home use. It’s designed to target the hair, and the hair only. There are no side effects and zero recovery time. Unlike IPL and clinical treatments, there are no sun restrictions after treatment with Epilaser. You’re free to get on with your life immediately after use.

Can I use Epilaser Anywhere on my body?

Epilaser is great for removing hair safely and permanently on almost any area of your body – excluding areas with mucus membranes, or near your eyes. As long as the device’s treatment window is fully covered and touching your skin, Epilaser’s sensors will activate. Epilaser is effective on facial hair but should not be used on or around your eyes or nose.

Epilaser has 3 power settings. For most laser hair removal areas, we recommend using the highest power level. Using your device on intimate areas such as your bikini line will depend on your skin’s sensitivity and your personal comfort level. Some find the skin in intimate areas more sensitive. We recommend beginning with the device’s lowest setting for these areas, then using a higher setting as needed.

Do I Need to Shave Before Use?

To prepare for laser hair removal, it is recommended to shave the treatment area. Shaving before treatment creates the ideal conditions for effective and permanent Epilaser treatment. Pigment in hair follicles is easiest for the device to identify when the hair is about 1.5 mm in length. Depending on how fast your hair grows, we recommend shaving the treatment area one day prior to treatment (allowing regrowth in the interim).

What about tattoos and piercings?

Your Epilaser device is calibrated for your skin tone. Epilaser 980 is engineered for skin types 4 and 5 on the Fitzpatrick Scale. Epilaser 808 is engineered for skin types 1-4 on the Fitzpatrick Scale. Since the device is calibrated to your skin tone, it should not be used in areas that are darker than your normal skin tone. This includes tattooed areas and large birthmarks and/or discolorations. We recommend removing any rings or body jewelry before treatment.

What is the Fitzpatrick Scale?

The Fitzpatrick scale is a classification system used to categorize human skin tones and their sensitivity to ultraviolet (UV) light. It was developed in 1975 by dermatologist Thomas B. Fitzpatrick. This scale helps to create objective guidelines when consulting for hair removal or seeking medical advice about a cosmetic procedure.

How often should I use my Epilaser?

The ideal number of treatments can vary depending on your hair type and density. In general. We recommend you treat each target area 2-3 times per week for 3 months. After that, you can reassess and treat as needed to maintain your luxuriously smooth skin.
