Key Takeaways

  • Laser hair removal uses focused light to disrupt the follicle’s growth cycle, stopping hair at the source and reducing regrowth with every session.

  • Epilaser’s patented SPOT™ technology identifies and targets up to 15 hair follicles at once, treating them precisely while leaving the skin untouched.

  • The dual-wavelength design (808nm + 980nm) provides safe and effective treatments for all skin tones, ranging from Fitzpatrick I to VI.

  • With a cordless, portable, and rechargeable design, Epilaser delivers clinic-level results at home, without the cost, scheduling, or inconvenience of repeated appointments.

  • A one-time investment in Epilaser replaces countless clinic visits and ongoing session fees, saving you time, money, and energy over the long term. Epilaser is even an option for those who have completed clinical treatments and require touch-ups.

  • Consistency is key: regular treatments over several weeks lead to long-term smoothness, thinner regrowth, and lasting confidence.

  • It’s more than smooth skin—it’s freedom from endless maintenance and the confidence to show up as your best self, every day.

Laser hair removal is a scientifically proven cosmetic treatment that simplifies and eases people’s lives. Why? Because it allows you to reclaim your time, redefine what self-care means, and reveal skin that feels smoother day after day. And thanks to innovations like Epilaser and its worldwide-patented SPOT™ technology, what once required multiple in-clinic hair removal treatments, highly expensive and inconvenient appointments can now be done safely, precisely, and permanently in the comfort of your own home. Whether you want to remove unwanted hair from large or small areas, the process remains the same: advanced science engineered for everyday life.

In this guide, we’ll unravel everything you need to know: how laser hair removal works, why wavelength matters, what results you can expect, and how Epilaser turns advanced science into a simple and joyous self-care ritual.

What Is Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal is a treatment that uses focused light energy to target and deactivate hair follicles at their source. Traditional laser devices, however, disperse energy across both the skin and the follicles, heating the surrounding tissue along with the target area. Epilaser, by contrast, uses Smart Precise Optic Targeting (SPOT) technology to channel a beam of light exclusively into the follicle itself—the tiny structure responsible for hair growth—while leaving the surrounding skin untouched.

When that energy is absorbed by melanin, the pigment inside the follicle, it’s converted into heat. This heat damages the follicle’s ability to grow hair in the future. Over time and multiple treatments, hair regrowth slows, weakens, and ultimately stops altogether.

The result is skin that feels softer, has no stubble, no irritation, and needs no constant upkeep.

People may get this treatment on any part of their body, but the most common areas are:

  • Lower face

  • Underarms

  • Bikini area, or any areas that grow pubic hair

  • Back

  • Legs

The Science of Laser Hair Removal

At its core, laser hair removal relies on a principle called selective photothermolysis, a carefully calibrated balance of light and heat that disables hair growth at its source.

Light: A diode laser emits a concentrated beam tuned to a specific wavelength that matches melanin’s absorption peak.

Melanin: The pigment inside your hair follicle absorbs that light far more readily than the surrounding skin, creating an exact target.

Heat: The absorbed energy converts to heat and travels down the hair shaft to disrupt the follicle’s ability to produce new hair without harming nearby tissue.

Epilaser’s diode technology goes deeper. It disables the follicle’s growth cycle so it can’t regenerate hair. And because hair regrowth happens in cycles, only those in the anagen (active growth) phase respond optimally to treatment, which is why multiple sessions are necessary in order to see lasting results.

Compared to IPL devices that scatter broad-spectrum light across the skin and risk unnecessary exposure, diode lasers focus energy only where it’s needed. The result is faster, more effective treatments, and skin that stays untouched while unwanted hair growth is permanently reduced.

Why Wavelength Matters: 808nm vs. 980nm

Different skin tones contain various amounts of melanin, especially near the surface. When you choose the right wavelength, you make sure the laser penetrates deeply enough to reach the follicle.

  • Epilaser 808 (808nm): Ideal for Fitzpatrick skin types I–IV (from very light skin to medium). This wavelength efficiently targets the follicle while maintaining comfort at the surface.

  • Epilaser 980 (980nm): Ideal for Fitzpatrick skin types V–VI (all skin and dark tone variations). A longer wavelength bypasses the melanin-rich epidermis, enabling it to reach the follicle safely and effectively without concern for hyperpigmentation.

This dual-wavelength precision is why #FreetoBeYou isn’t just something we say, but a reality that reflects how we deliver professional-quality results to every skin tone, without compromise.

SPOT™ Technology: The Heart of Epilaser

What makes Epilaser different is our worldwide patented system, SPOT™ technology (Smart Precise Optical Targeting), which makes hair removal more accurate, efficient, and gentle than ever before.

Here is how it works:

  1. Smart imaging: When you place Epilaser’s treatment window against your skin, an advanced imaging system uses backscattered light to create a high-contrast map of the treatment area.

  2. Intelligent detection: A built-in microcomputer analyzes the image and identifies up to 15 follicles at once.

  3. Precise engagement: Epilaser’s four diode lasers can target four individual follicles simultaneously or focus multiple lasers on a single, stubborn follicle.

  4. Target-only treatment: If no follicles are present, the lasers don’t engage, and the surrounding skin remains untouched.

Your Results Timeline: What to Expect

For optimal results, we highly recommend Epilaser treatments twice to three times a week. In the early stages of your permanent hair removal journey, you may see hair regrowth. Hair will continue to grow back thinner and thinner until regrowth is eliminated. The patterns of new hair growth are unique from one individual to another, but arms and legs tend to be the most stubborn areas in regard to regrowth.

Day 1

It’s possible that you'll see hair after your initial Epilaser at-home session. Epilaser doesn't simply burn hair like other at-home devices. It scientifically deactivates hair follicles at the root, so that future hair growth becomes finer, slower, and eventually stops altogether with consistent use.

Week 1

After a few treatments, the hair will start to grow back thinner and less dense. You’re making progress already! Keep on schedule and keep up the good work!

One month

After a month of regular use (two to three times per week), you should start seeing a significant reduction in hair regrowth. Εpilaser treatments will become quicker as the density of follicles lessens over time.

Three months

By this point, most users report a permanent decrease in regrowth, with treated areas feeling smoother and looking clearer. Congratulations—you’ve unveiled your best self! Enjoy your silky-smooth skin.

Beyond three months

Over time, new hair follicles may form. You may choose to follow up with occasional touch-up treatments. In areas that have already been treated 2 to 3 times per week for 3 months, touch-up treatments will be quick and easy.

Benefits of Laser Hair Removal

The appeal of laser hair removal lies in the freedom and control it offers over your time, convenience, and self-care.

  • Permanent reduction: Once a follicle is disrupted, it doesn’t come back. Simply put, every session gets you closer to permanently silky skin.

  • Gentle precision: SPOT™ technology treats follicles only, leaving surrounding skin untouched.

  • Inclusive innovation: We designed Epilaser with every skin tone in mind, from Fitzpatrick I to VI.

  • Cordless convenience: With its cordless, rechargeable design, you can take your treatments anywhere, even on the go.

  • No downtime: With no sunlight restrictions and minimal post-care, life goes on as usual.

At-Home vs. Other Clinic Hair Removal Methods: Why Epilaser Wins

In-clinic laser treatments can deliver excellent results, but they often come with trade-offs: recurring costs, strict appointment schedules, travel time, and inconsistent technology quality.

Epilaser goes against the tide. With our diode laser and SPOT™  technology, you get the same science used in clinical settings, now adapted for everyday life. Treatments take minutes, not hours. You choose when they happen, where they happen, and how much they cost you. It’s precision you control, at a pace that fits your life, and results that often exceed what you typically find in a dermatologist’s office.

What Is the Cost of At-Home Laser Hair Removal?

Professional in-clinic treatments work, but they are expensive and time-consuming. Multiple sessions, per-area pricing, and regular travel to a clinic can add up quickly.

With Epilaser, you make a one-time investment in a device you can use across multiple body areas for years. You set the schedule, you control the cost, and you still get the results you want.

For a full breakdown of how costs compare, you can read our guide How much does laser hair removal cost.

Are There Side Effects of Laser Hair Removal?

While older laser systems often cause irritation or downtime, Epilaser is different. Because SPOT™ technology targets follicles only, it minimizes stress on the skin. The most common response is mild rosiness, a normal sign that your skin has processed a treatment, which usually fades quickly.

We always recommend:

  • Avoiding saunas, hot tubs, or perfumed products for 24 hours.

  • Not using the device on or near the eyes.

  • Check compatibility with your skin tone before use.

Does It Hurt?

Most users describe Epilaser treatments as a gentle, warm pulse. Nothing harsh, nothing intense.  Treatments are fast, easy, and safe to repeat.

Who Should Avoid Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal is generally safe and effective for most people; however, there are certain conditions where extra caution is necessary. If any of the following apply to you, it’s best to speak with your healthcare provider before starting treatment:

  • You’re currently pregnant or breastfeeding.

  • You’re taking medications that increase light sensitivity, such as certain acne treatments.

  • You have a history of cold sores or genital herpes (HSV-2).

  • You’re prone to keloid scarring (raised scars).

  • You have, or have previously had, skin cancer.

A quick conversation with your doctor can help you decide whether laser hair removal is right for you, so you can enjoy all the benefits safely.

FAQs

How long will it take to see results?

The effects of laser hair removal can vary from person to person. Epilaser does not simply “laser away” the exposed ends of your body hair. It deactivates hair follicles at the root. For this reason, the hair will not instantly vanish. Instead, the hair will naturally fall out over the next day or two after treatment. Most users begin to see dramatic results after 3-4 treatments. In most cases, hair will stop growing back altogether after about 3 months of regular treatments.

Factors that Impact Permanent Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is a unique experience for each user. Factors that contribute to efficacy and permanence include skin color, hair color and hair density. People with a high contrast between their skin tone and hair color will experience the most effective treatment because the device will be able to identify hair follicles quickly and accurately. People with hair colors that match their skin tone can experience less effective results from laser treatment.

Is Permanent Laser Hair Removal 100% safe?

At-home laser hair removal treatment with Epilaser is 100% safe and effective. We all deserve the ability to remove unwanted hair without worry. The Epilaser mission is to provide you with effortless solutions to ensure you can easily and effectively remove hair safely. Epilaser is gentle, totally safe and FDA cleared for home use. It’s designed to target the hair, and the hair only. There are no side effects and zero recovery time. Unlike IPL and clinical treatments, there are no sun restrictions after treatment with Epilaser. You’re free to get on with your life immediately after use.

Can I use Epilaser Anywhere on my body?

Epilaser is great for removing hair safely and permanently on almost any area of your body – excluding areas with mucus membranes, or near your eyes. As long as the device’s treatment window is fully covered and touching your skin, Epilaser’s sensors will activate. Epilaser is effective on facial hair but should not be used on or around your eyes or nose.

Epilaser has 3 power settings. For most laser hair removal areas, we recommend using the highest power level. Using your device on intimate areas such as your bikini line will depend on your skin’s sensitivity and your personal comfort level. Some find the skin in intimate areas more sensitive. We recommend beginning with the device’s lowest setting for these areas, then using a higher setting as needed.

Do I Need to Shave Before Use?

To prepare for laser hair removal, it is recommended to shave the treatment area. Shaving before treatment creates the ideal conditions for effective and permanent Epilaser treatment. Pigment in hair follicles is easiest for the device to identify when the hair is about 1.5 mm in length. Depending on how fast your hair grows, we recommend shaving the treatment area one day prior to treatment (allowing regrowth in the interim).

What about tattoos and piercings?

Your Epilaser device is calibrated for your skin tone. Epilaser 980 is engineered for skin types 4 and 5 on the Fitzpatrick Scale. Epilaser 808 is engineered for skin types 1-4 on the Fitzpatrick Scale. Since the device is calibrated to your skin tone, it should not be used in areas that are darker than your normal skin tone. This includes tattooed areas and large birthmarks and/or discolorations. We recommend removing any rings or body jewelry before treatment.

What is the Fitzpatrick Scale?

The Fitzpatrick scale is a classification system used to categorize human skin tones and their sensitivity to ultraviolet (UV) light. It was developed in 1975 by dermatologist Thomas B. Fitzpatrick. This scale helps to create objective guidelines when consulting for hair removal or seeking medical advice about a cosmetic procedure.

How often should I use my Epilaser?

The ideal number of treatments can vary depending on your hair type and density. In general. We recommend you treat each target area 2-3 times per week for 3 months. After that, you can reassess and treat as needed to maintain your luxuriously smooth skin.
